Once the largest airport in Thailand and the 18th busiest on Earth, Don Mueang has been replaced as thailand’s primary passenger airport by the newer Suvarnabhumi Airport. While current plans are for Don Mueang to continue as a cargo, charter flight, and military air strip, domestic commercial flights on Thai Airways, Nok Air, and One-Two-Go Airlines are expected to be shifted to Suvarnabhumi as the new airport expands and can handle greater passenger volume.

Vibhavadi Rangsit Road is the main route linking DMK with downtown Bangkok. Other transport webs bringing us to downtown are toll-way and expressways which facilitate passengers' trip with more convenience and fastness. Besides travelling by road, train is other choice for travelling to town, spending 30 minutes only. The railway station is opposite and linked with the airport by walkway bridge.

Recommended Bangkok Don Muang Airport (DMK)

You will receive many offers for taxis and hotels just before leaving the arrival zone! Ignore them. Say: "no thank you". Most of these services are too expensive. After leaving the arrival zone without losing money, you may wish to first visit one of thecurrency exchange services. That's ok! Do it.

To go to Bangkok now, you will need a taxi. There are private taxis called taxi and public taxis called taxi-meter. Take a taxi-meter, because it is much more cheap. Some private taxis pay money to the airport, so they have a better location for waiting for passengers.Money-Hint
Use the exit on the third floor (departure) and ask an incoming metered taxi for take you to your desired destination. These metered taxis generally come from Bangkok to carry passengers to the airport. Here is the best (and cheapest) place to get transportation to Bangkok central.

    How to use a taxi
First, tell the driver your destination. If the driver likes that, tell him you want transportation "by meter". If he still agrees, you have your first golden deal. We highly recommend to enter the taxi now! Let him use the "express road" and give him the tollway fee (40 Baht). Finally, you will pay estimated 250 Baht (depending on destination).

If the traffic is very busy in Bangkok (it happens sometimes...), many drivers do not like to go "by meter" and you must bargain for the price. You should not accept more than 70% of his first offer. Do not enter the taxi before fixing the price! Finally, you will pay 300-500 Baht (depending on traffic and location).Hotel
You can book a hotel at one of the counters in the airport, but take note of the location and the price, but this is not the best idea! Try to book a Bangkok hotel before arriving over the Internet.<hr class="dashedline" style="margin: 15px 0px; padding: 0px; clear: both; border: 1px dashed rgb(204, 204, 204);"> Telecommunications

    Public Telephone
Passengers can make a local call with the charge of 1 Baht for the first 3 minutes. The charge for long distance call will depend on the destination. The fee for calling to mobile phone will start from 3 to 12 Baht, depending on the destination. Passenger can search for the phone card at the souvenir shop in the airport terminal.Overseas calls
Overseas call service is provided at the airport post office in the Domestic Terminal on the 2nd Floor or at telephone booth.<hr class="dashedline" style="margin: 15px 0px; padding: 0px; clear: both; border: 1px dashed rgb(204, 204, 204);"> Tourist Services

Tour Package and Accommodation Reservation Service for passengers and those using services in the airport can ask for services regarding tour packages and accommodations at the tour counters in Terminal 1 as follows:<table class="info-address" style="margin: 20px 0px 0px; padding: 0px; clear: right; text-align: left;"><tbody style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;"><tr style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;"><td style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px 20px 20px 0px; width: 345px; vertical-align: top;">The arrival lounge

As from 1st June 1999, the tourists who purchase goods from stores in Thailand which display a "VAT Refund for Tourists” sign may claim for VAT refund from the VAT Refund counter in the departure hall of international airports before departing Thailand.

The tourist is eligible to receive P.P.10 when the total purchase of 2,000 Baht or over is made from the same store which display a “VAT Refund for Tourists” sign on the same date. The merchandises claimed for VAT refund are required to be taken out of country by the tourist on the departure trip within 60 days since the purchase date. Before departure, the tourist is required to present the merchandises and VAT refund application for tourists form (P.P.10) to Customs officers for inspection before check-in for departure from Thailand. Luxury goods, such as jewelry, gold ornaments, watch, glassed or pen, must once more be inspected by the Revenue officers at the VAT Refund office.

In this regard, the VAT Refund Office and the Revenue Office at Don Mueang International Airport are located in the departure hall on the 3rd floor, close to entrance No.1 and also in the international departure hall (in restricted area).<hr class="dashedline" style="margin: 15px 0px; padding: 0px; clear: both; border: 1px dashed rgb(204, 204, 204); color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Tahoma, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: normal; line-height: 18px; orphans: auto; text-align: left; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; widows: auto; word-spacing: 0px; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);">Geetting From - To Don Muang Airport /DMK
